Lavender Orpingtons
Standard Size
Originating in England, the Orpington breed was meant to be a dual-purpose bird. Meaning a larger carcass for the table and consistent egg production. The roosters average between 8-10lbs while the hens are around 6-8lbs. They are meant to have a broad body while standing lower to the ground, holding a gorgeous curved shape and shorter back. Generally they have a smaller head and medium sized combs; roosters having 5 or more points.

The hens lay a beautiful light brown medium sized egg and average 175 to 200 eggs a year. In our experiences with this breed they lay well into their 3rd & 4th years. We chose them for their docile temperaments around children and sweet calm nature. They are very inquisitive birds!

Their skin is white and legs are generally black while being clean of feathers. A beautiful broad feather that puffs out making them look larger than they really are. The roosters are very protective of their flock and then hens can become very broody during the warmer months; making them great mothers!

They make for a great bird in our colder Canadian climates.
