Brown Chinese Geese

We raised Brown Chinese Geese long ago, then took a break from them up until 2022 when I ordered some hatching eggs from Saskatchewan. We were successful in hatching 5 goslings and hand raised them as wonderful pets. They are the most entertaining joy here at our funny farm! Though they may be loud and rather obnoxious at times, they are peaceful social creatures. They require a lot of water and spend the majority of their time cleaning and preening themselves. They make excellent grass and bug eaters and the occasional bum biter! lol

More about the Brown Chinese: They lay the most out of all the different domestic breeds. For about 5 months out of the year, beginning in February, they lay a very large egg anywhere from 50-100 per year. They have long slender necks with a large black to brown basal knob on top of their beak. With the gander having a much more prominent knob. It takes about 8-12 months to tell gander from goose. They have orange feet, and also come in the color of white with an orange beak and knob as well. The ganders are very protective of their girls and can easily leave bruises with a twisting motion when biting. They also hit with their powerful wings if feeling threatened. They make excellent parents and can easily rear their offspring. Incubational period is up to 32 days. They cannot fly, but can get 3-4ft clearance off the ground when running with their wings out having a great time! They are also not nearly as loud or ornery as other breeds. A very winter hardy breed.

They are considered endangered.
